Guardians Of The Galaxy is the summer blockbuster I have been waiting for. The movie opens and it automatically just sucks you in with the awesome credits sequence.
They should really call themselves the best film of 2014, because that is what it is! Anyway as you can probably tell, this is my review for the new Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy. They're like the B-Rate Avengers and on a different planet. Xandar to be exact. Anywho's, the plot.
The visuals in this movie are insane, the colour palette for the film is just a treat to the eye, so vibrant and...well... so fun. The one word to describe the film is FUN. The film steers away from that bleak colour palette we are so used to seeing in 'serious' summer blockbusters and offers a nice fresh looking film with so many popping colours. The visual effects in the film are also top notch, with spectacular work done on Rocket and Groot, they feel like they are always there, you forget about the CG and focus on the characters
Plot :
After stealing a mysterious orb in the far reaches of outer space, human Peter Quill is now the main target of a manhunt led by the villain known as Ronan the Accuser. To help fight Ronan and his team and save the galaxy from his power, Quill creates a team known as the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' to save the world.
Actor:
Chris Pratt as Peter Quill a.k.a. Starlord : A big badass who has one of the best mixtapes I've ever heard and who is one of the most badass characters in the Marvel films.
Zoe Saldana as Gamora also does a good job with her character. Gamora has a really awesome backstory that i hope gets explored in further films. She is great in the action scenes, funny when she needs to be and looks awesome on screen.
Dave Bautista as Drax is also great, at the start of the film you can see Dave slightly adjusting to...acting, but after that he is awesome, his character doesn't have as much depth as I was hoping for but he has some of the funniest lines in the film, I was very impressed with his performance by the end of the film. He also was great in the action scenes as expected since he was a pro-wrestler.
Groot : Voiced and sometimes played by Vin Diesel. He was really good as Groot, even though the only thing he could ever say was I Am Groot. And last but not least
Bradley Cooper nails rockets voice and you can't even really tell that its Cooper behind the mic. Rocket is hilarious, bad ass and really delivers in some of the emotional scenes
The bad guy: Ronan the Accuser played by Lee Pace. People say that he wasn't as good as they hoped. But I gotta say, he was a massive menacing awesome villain. The backstory of Ronan includes him having a bit of a feud with Drax, because as heard in the trailer, Ronan killed Drax's family, and thus the feud was born. Drax, while focusing on being a Guardian of the Galaxy, has a major score to settle with Ronan. Right, enough about the film before I give too much away, let's get onto the final score.
Direction :
The film was badass, director James Gunn did a fantastic job on bringing the B-Rate Avengers to life, the actors who played the Guardians were awesome, so I am giving this my biggest rating yet. Bigger than the rating I gave Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Godzilla and How To Train Your Dragon 2 combined. I am giving the badass of awesomeness film. The film balances all the elements of action, adventure, comedy, drama really well and if i were to describe it to someone it would be STAR WARS + RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK + FIREFLY = GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.
SoundTrack :
The film, just made me feel happy. Im sure one of the major reasons for this was the soundtrack. The soundtrack for this movie is perfect, with classic 70's and 80's songs, it just makes you feel Happy. They mend so well with what is happening on screen, especially during the opening credits. The score for the film is also fantastic, it is sweet, epic, scary and fun.
Verdict : 5/5
Conclusion :
This is seriously one of the best movies I have ever experienced. It had everything to make a great movie. It was constantly bad-ass and hilarious with a hint of romance and tragedy. I definitely think this is worthy of a Best Picture nomination and of course some nods to the visuals and sound. A Grammy for best soundtrack compilation. Go see it. Experience it. Then re-experience it over and over like I plan to!.
P.S. Stay for the end credits. You'll be in for the funniest and greatest end credit scenes in Marvel movie history. That's all I'm saying.
